Chief of Attu, Mike Hodiakoff. with his wife and two children. Since Attu did not have a priest, Chief Hodiakoff conducted church services. His aunt, Maggie Prokopoff a.k.a. the Rock of Ages, second from right, was Attu's most skillful basket weaver. Maggie, the daughter of an Unangax̂ chief and was married to a Russian officer of high rank. She was said to be the best dancer in the Aleutians. The writer, botanist, and explorer, Isobel Wylie Hutchison, is at the back of the group.
Cultural Narrative:
In Unangam tunuu Maggie's name is Wassa, but to the US Coast Guard she is known as Rock of Ages. Nicknamed Rock of Ages "because she never changes from what she was years ago, white teeth and grin and all".
